How to Calculate Box and Furniture Volume

The cubic-metre formula

For measurements in metres, volume = length × width × height. Multiply three centimetre measurements and divide by 1,000,000. A 60 × 40 × 40 cm box occupies 0.096 m³; ten identical boxes occupy 0.96 m³.

Measuring furniture

Use packed external dimensions. Record dismantled wardrobes by the actual pieces to be transported. Irregular shapes may occupy more loading space than their calculated geometric volume; unusable gaps also take room.

Volume, weight and price

Cubic metres and kilograms measure different things. A small heavy load and a large light one are planned differently. The result is not a price: route, transport option, packing and access must also be assessed.
